Lancaster County, PA, April 9, 2018 – Saxton & Stump’s Luke T. Weber, Esq. was an invited speaker at the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority’s inaugural Patient Safety Summit on April 5, 2018 held at The Penn Stater Conference Center & Hotel in State College, PA. Mr. Weber presented Responding to Error together with attorney Thomas Hall of Atlee Hall.
During the presentation, Mr. Weber discussed the importance of disclosure, including misconceptions and strategies to improve how facilities address this difficult topic. Specifically, the presentation explored the legal effect and real-world ramifications of good and bad post-event physician-patient communication. Throughout the presentation, Mr. Weber and Mr. Hall discussed how appropriate post-event communication, or the lack thereof, shapes potential claims or lawsuits and possible strategies to reduce or mitigate the severity of potential claims.
Pennsylvania Patient Safety Authority aims to improve the quality of healthcare in Pennsylvania by collecting and analyzing patient safety information, developing solutions to patient safety issues, and sharing this information through education and collaboration. The Summit provided healthcare professionals with concrete strategies to improve the safety of patients in the areas of infection prevention, medication safety, improving diagnosis, and responding to error.
Mr. Weber is an associate attorney who focuses a large portion of his practice on healthcare litigation, representing doctors, hospitals and other healthcare professionals in professional liability actions. He has experience litigating cases across a range of medical specialties at both the trial and appellate court level. Mr. Weber earned his law degree from the Pennsylvania State University Dickinson School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from Widener University. He is a member of the Pennsylvania and Lancaster Bar Associations. In 2017, Mr. Weber was recognized as a Super Lawyers- Pennsylvania Rising Stars.
