Federal prosecutor Tonya Sulia Goodman joins Saxton & Stump in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa., October 8, 2025 Saxton & Stump has added Tonya Sulia Goodman, an 18-year veteran of the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in Washington, D.C., and the Western District of Pennsylvania,  as senior counsel in the firm’s Investigations, White Collar and Criminal Defense, and Commercial Litigation groups in Pittsburgh. Goodman most recently served as deputy criminal chief in the Western District of Pennsylvania, where she supervised 34 attorneys and four paralegals and oversaw prosecutions involving white-collar and violent crime, child exploitation, and significant drug-trafficking matters. Since 2018, she has also served as acting criminal chief and as chief of the Violent Crimes and Narcotics and Organized Crime and Narcotics sections.

Earlier in her career, Goodman was an assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Columbia, where she tried dozens of cases and managed hundreds of grand jury investigations. In private practice, she was a senior associate at global firm Reed Smith, conducting internal investigations and defending corporate clients in federal and state matters.

“Saxton & Stump brings together the resources of a leading investigations practice with a team that understands Pittsburgh’s courts and business community,” Goodman said. “After years leading federal prosecutions and handling internal investigations, I’m excited to help companies navigate government inquiries and complex litigation alongside a strong group here in Western Pennsylvania.”

“During her nearly 20 years in public service, Tonya has earned an exceptional reputation,” said Timothy M. Stengel, co-chair of Saxton & Stump’s Investigations, White Collar and Criminal Defense Group. “Not only is she a proven trial attorney who has conducted significant government investigations, but she has shown that she can be successful in private practice as well.  She has the talent, skills, and experience our clients depend on, and we are thrilled to have her join our team”

Goodman joins nine other lawyers in the Pittsburgh office, which recently moved into its permanent space at the historic Union Trust Building downtown as the firm continues to attract top talent to the city.
