Assistant District Attorney Lance Greene joins Saxton & Stump’s litigation teams
LANCASTER, Pa., November 8, 2021 — Lance D. Greene, Esq. has joined Saxton & Stump’s White Collar Defense and Healthcare Litigation and Mitigation teams as an associate, bringing more trial lawyer experience to the firm’s growing set of resources for litigation defense clients. Earlier this year, former Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General Carson B. Morris, Esq. launched the team and quickly added one of the top defense attorneys on the East Coast in attorney William C. Costopoulos. Greene is the latest addition and will also assist the Commercial Litigation and Healthcare Litigation and Mitigation teams.
“Lance is the latest in an exciting year of growing our civil and criminal defense resources,” Saxton & Stump CEO James Saxton said. “He is a tremendous asset and we’re thrilled to have him as part of our growing team of outstanding litigators.”
When he was hired as assistant district attorney (ADA), Greene made headlines as one of the first Black ADAs in the long history of the Lancaster County office. Now he is entering private practice and bringing his experience as a prosecutor to help clients navigate complex criminal and civil litigation in federal and state courts, as well as in administrative proceedings.
While assistant district attorney, Greene served as a supervisor and lead prosecutor in the Juvenile Court Division where he developed respect in the community for his work resolving cases in a fair and compassionate way to put youth on a path for future success. In addition to his duties handling cases involving juveniles, he successfully tried a wide range of adult matters through jury trials, bench trial and suppression hearings.
Greene’s experience in the courts extends to before his work as an ADA, when he served as the Chief Deputy Clerk of Circuit Court in Roanoke, VA, supervising the departmental functions, including employees across Civil, Criminal, Probate and Land Records Divisions and acting as a liaison between the court and the Supreme Court of Virginia. And while earning his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in Massachusetts, Greene was a Massachusetts Rule 3:03 Certified Student Prosecutor and able to participate in criminal prosecutions in Roxbury District Court. Additionally, he completed a summer internship at the United States Attorney’s Office assisting with legal investigations, research and drafting responses, including compiling jury instructions for cases under the Federal false, fictitious and fraudulent claims statute. He also was a NAACP Kellogg’s Summer Law Fellow, where he conducted legal research for an amicus brief submitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, among other legal research and advocacy projects on environmental justice, education and other civil rights issues.
While Greene will be representing individuals and businesses, Greene retains his passion for impacting the younger generation. He serves as an adjunct professor of Juvenile Law and Justice and Constitutional Law at Elizabethtown College and is the chair of the Young Lawyers section of the Lancaster Bar Association. He also serves as vice chair of the Diversity Committee and on the board of directors for ASSETS of Lancaster.
A team with notable experience from the bench, prosecution and defense
Greene joins a White Collar Defense team that is led by Carson B. Morris, Esq. who is a former Deputy Attorney General in Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s administration, and boasts former Chief Judge for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Hon. Lawrence F. Stengel, (Ret.), one of the highest-profile defense attorneys on the East Coast in William C. Costopoulos, Esq., and Hon. Robert A. Graci (Ret.), a former Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge and retired Chief Counsel to the Judicial Conduct Board of Pennsylvania. They are joined by attorneys with significant courtroom experience as prosecutors, public defenders and litigators at renowned law firms throughout the country.
