Creative options for businesses seeking a PA liquor license – Ken McDermott featured in Harrisburg Commercial Real Estate Review magazine

Saxton & Stump attorney Kenneth J. McDermott published an article titled “Thinking outside the box – creative options for businesses seeking a PA liquor license in a competitive marketplace” in the 2020 First Quarter edition of Bill Gladstone Group of NAI CIR’s Harrisburg Commercial Real Estate Review (HCRER) magazine. The publication, which features in-depth articles by local professionals on current regional trends and provides insights on the latest developments in various industries, is distributed four times per year, reaching more than 5,000 readers.

In the article, Ken explains the recent changes to Pennsylvania’s alcohol laws, which have increased the number of businesses seeking liquor licenses. This has created an issue because most counties met or exceeded their liquor license quota decades ago, meaning there are no new licenses available. The fact that Pennsylvania has some of the most challenging liquor licensing laws in the country further complicates the issue. Obtaining a license in today’s market can be challenging and expensive; however, Ken explains options that exist outside of the usual liquor license marketplace for small business owners looking to offer their customers alcohol.

Ken is a liquor licensing and alcohol law attorney at Saxton & Stump with more than 10 years of experience helping Pennsylvania’s alcohol manufacturers and retailers open their doors and reach their business goals. In addition to providing guidance on the impacts of COVID-19 and licensing issues, he has successfully appealed decisions by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and defended clients in citation actions. Ken is a passionate advocate for the industry and maintains an active Twitter account, @PA_Alcohol_Law. He can be reached at (717) 941-1211 or
