LANCASTER, Pa., April 1, 2019 — On April 11, 2019 Judge Lawrence F. Stengel (Ret.) will present in Philadelphia at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s (PBI) “Civil Practice in the Eastern District” seminar. Stengel will serve as part of a panel with leading practitioners and judges to discuss how to successfully litigate a civil case in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania from pre-filing to investigation and trial.

This seminar will cover the logistics of filing and the current state of courtroom technology. Critical elements of trial will also be explored, including pre-compliant investigations and initial pleadings, scheduling and traditional discovery, electronic discovery, witnesses, pre-trial requirements and the differences between settlement and trial.

Stengel has substantial insight into practice in the Eastern District having served as U.S. District Court judge for 14 years and as the chief judge in his final year before retirement. After retiring from the federal bench in August 2018, Stengel joined Saxton & Stump to lead the Internal Investigations Group. He also leads Optimal Dispute Resolutions, a regional and national ADR provider.
