2021 Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance inspection dates for commercial trucking

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced dates for several commercial motor vehicle inspection campaigns set to take place in 2021. The CVSA inspects approximately 4 million vehicles over the course of a year in North America. Their campaigns are aimed at enforcement, compliance, education and gathering data on industry trends. Here are some of the dates you should know:

International Roadcheck

May 4 — 6, 2021: International Roadcheck is an annual three-day event when CVSA-certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle and driver safety. International Roadcheck is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world, with nearly 15 trucks or buses inspected, on average, every minute across North America during a 72-hour period. Please be aware that this year’s Roadcheck will place special emphasis on lighting and hours of service issues, including ELD requirements.

Operation Safe Driver Week

July 11 — 17, 2021: During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement agencies across North America engage in heightened traffic safety enforcement and education aimed at combating unsafe driving behaviors by both commercial motor vehicle and passenger-vehicle drivers. Activities are held across the United States, Canada and Mexico with the goal of increasing commercial vehicle and non-commercial vehicle traffic enforcement, safety belt enforcement, driver roadside inspections and driver regulatory compliance.

Brake Safety Week

Aug. 22 — 28, 2021: During the brake safety enforcement campaign, CMV inspectors will conduct brake system inspections (primarily Level IV Inspections) on large trucks and buses throughout North America to identify out-of-adjustment brakes and brake-system violations. The week is an annual outreach and enforcement campaign designed to improve commercial vehicle brake safety throughout North America.

Unannounced one-day brake safety enforcement initiative

This check could happen at any time during 2021. During this one-day effort, CMV inspectors will conduct brake system inspections (primarily Level IV Inspections) on large trucks and buses throughout North America to identify out-of-adjustment brakes and brake-system violations.
