CHARLESTON, SC, July 7, 2022 — Alice Paylor has joined Saxton & Stump as the firm’s newest equity shareholder. She will work in the firm’s Charleston office with Bijan Ghom, who has also recently joined Saxton & Stump. Paylor brings her extensive experience to the commercial litigation and labor and employment teams. Ghom will also join the commercial litigation and labor and employment team, as well as the business and corporate law group. The pair bring nearly 50 years of South Carolina legal experience to Saxton & Stump’s Charleston office.
“We have a great core of South Carolina lawyers in the Charleston office. Alice’s addition brings important experience in high-stakes commercial litigation. She has been a true leader who is well-known and respected throughout the state,” Saxton & Stump CEO James W. Saxton said. “Bijan has an outstanding and unique background as both a lawyer and having obtained his MBA. Together with Alice and our team, bring depth and breadth to our growing practice.”
Paylor is deeply connected to the Charleston legal community. She began her career serving as deputy corporation counsel for the City of Charleston prior to joining Rosen Hagood as an associate in 1982, where she was promoted to shareholder and spent many years in various management roles. Paylor was president of the South Carolina Bar in 2013. She has also been active in the American Bar Association where she served on the executive committee of the National Conference of Bar Presidents and as a South Carolina state delegate to the ABA House of Delegates. Her practice focuses on complex commercial litigation including contract disputes, business torts, education law and estate and probate litigation. She has also handled many land use disputes and other zoning matters. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Ghom brings unique experience as a successful entrepreneur to his practice. Prior to law school, Ghom founded a number of technology-driven businesses, including leading a web-based SaaS (software as a service) development company, co-founding Jockbrokers, a patented sports fantasy investing application, and founding Universal Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency platform later sold to a foreign trader. He earned a J.D. magna cum laude from the Charleston School of Law and an MBA from the College of Charleston. As a business attorney, he advises clients on matters such as formation, shareholder agreements and bylaws, to dissolutions, liquidations and other general corporate issues. He also has significant experience handling corporate, shareholder and LLC member disputes, including oppression of minority shareholders as well as buy-out and valuation litigation. His practice also includes representing businesses and individuals in complex litigation, with a focus on fiduciary disputes, unfair trade practices and tortious interference. “Best Lawyers” recently named Ghom to its list of “Ones to Watch” in South Carolina for the second consecutive year in the commercial litigation practice and Super Lawyers named Ghom a “Rising Star” in 2022 for business litigation.
