MALVERN, Pa., August 8, 2022— Attorney John Goldschmidt, who brings over three decades of patent and intellectual property (IP) experience, has joined Saxton & Stump. Goldschmidt is the latest addition to the firm’s growing IP team, led by Attorney Andrew Oltmans, that recently added patent attorney Andrew Mead, the lawyers of Kent Franchise Law Group, and launched Palq IP, an IP consulting firm. A registered patent attorney and former member of Kent Franchise Law Group, Goldschmidt will join the Intellectual Property, Commercial Litigation and Franchising, Licensing and Distribution groups.

Goldschmidt began his career as an engineer before attending law school and joining Reed Smith LLP. He spent 15 years at Reed Smith, eventually leading the Philadelphia intellectual property practice group. He left Reed Smith to join Dilworth Paxson LLP and chair the intellectual property group for the next eight years. Since then, he has worked at a number of boutique law firms focusing on intellectual property for businesses. That included Kent Franchise Law Group and Ference & Associates LLC. Goldschmidt has also served as legal counsel for a data analytics company, providing strategic and legal advice on technology and software development, licensing, distribution agreements. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical and Systems Engineering from Drexel University and a J.D. from Rutgers University Law School in Camden. Goldschmidt returned to his alma mater as an adjunct professor in intellectual property law from 1999 to 2005. In his community, John is Chairman Emeritus of the Board of Directors of Archbishop John Carroll High School in Radnor and continues to serve on that Board. He has also chaired the Board of Directors of Citizen Diplomacy International of Philadelphia, is a former member of the Board of Managers of the Overbrook School for the Blind and is a current member of its Facilities Committee.
A growing team of IP resources
With Goldschmidt, Saxton & Stump now has four patent attorneys with significant experience ranging from biotechnology, metallurgy, and chemical manufacturing to data analytics, digital technologies and consumer products. The team is led by chair and patent attorney Andrew Oltmans, who was a former patent examiner, and now advises clients in IP and patent strategy. It also includes patent attorney Meghan A. Van Leeuwen, Hon. Lawrence F. Stengel (Ret.) and attorney Chad G. Goebel, who brings significant trial experience in complex commercial litigation. Earlier this year, the group welcomed both Andrew Mead, an IP lawyer who merged his solo practice with the firm, as well as the former team from Kent Franchise Law Group, which included attorneys Tom Kent, Amanda Dempsey and Jarina Duffy as well as paralegal Jessica O’Toole. Saxton & Stump also launched a consulting company, Palq IP, to offer IP and business strategy services to creators, entrepreneurs and small or medium-sized businesses.

The firm was named the fastest growing law firm in Pennsylvania by The Legal Intelligencer, having added 53 professionals in 2021, including 22 attorneys. Overall, Saxton & Stump has grown to a team of more than 150 professionals, including 90 attorneys. The firm has added new practice groups such as environmental, workplace safety and utilities and franchising, licensing and distribution. In addition to bolstering their services, they have also grown key existing practice areas such as healthcare, senior care, real estate, government affairs and trusts and estates.
