Tax attorney Pauline Markey joins Saxton & Stump as equity shareholder in Philadelphia

LANCASTER, Pa., January 25, 2023 — Saxton & Stump is pleased to announce that Pauline Markey, a tax attorney with more than 15 years of experience at some of Philadelphia’s largest law firms, has joined the firm as an equity shareholder. She is a member of the firm’s Business, Corporate and Tax Group working with clients on federal income tax matters, specifically working with compensations, pass-through entities and tax-exempt organizations. Markey handles negotiations with the IRS and Pennsylvania Department of Revenue on both income and sales and use tax matters and advises on mergers and acquisitions.

“Pauline’s experience with helping her clients achieve their goals with carefully crafted tax planning will be a great fit for our firm,” Saxton & Stump CEO James W. Saxton said. “She has consistently proven herself as a leader in her field both professionally as an attorney and in the community as a volunteer. In addition to helping us build the firm’s tax practice, she will significantly help our efforts to further build our presence in the Philadelphia area. Adding Philadelphia talent such as Pauline lifts the resources available in all of our offices.”

Before arriving at Saxton & Stump, Markey was a tax partner at Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel, where she was the co-chair of the firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee and an editor of the firm’s Legal Developers blog for the real estate and construction industry. She also is on the finance committee of the Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corp., a nonprofit serving the Chinatown community in civic engagement and neighborhood planning and is a former member of the board of trustees for the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, which works to provide equal access to justice.

Pauline earned both her law degree and her LL.M. in taxation from the University of Florida and earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University.

Saxton & Stump has focused on expanding the Business, Corporate and Tax Group under the direction of the group’s chair, Katherine Pandelidis Granbois. Markey’s hiring represents a continued concentration on adding attorneys who have received advanced tax degrees to bolster the group’s ability to handle complex tax issues for its business clients throughout the firm’s six locations. Markey is the fourth tax attorney the firm has hired since June 2022, following Joel Schwartz in the firm’s New Jersey office, Cody Deckert in the firm’s Charleston, S.C., office and Devin Uqdah in the firm’s Malvern office. To reflect the added resources, the group recently added “Tax” to the team already dedicated to helping businesses through a multitude of general business and corporate matters across various industries.
