LANCASTER, Pa., March 1, 2022 — Saxton & Stump’s intellectual property team has welcomed attorney Andrew Mead and appointed attorney Andrew Oltmans as the new chair. Mead, who will join the firm as senior counsel, was the proprietor at Patent Law Associates, an IP firm serving local, national and multinational clients. Oltmans, who is a former patent examiner with nearly 20 years of IP law experience, will lead the group that has seen significant growth in resources recently. With Mead, the team now has three registered U.S. patent attorneys and three additional intellectual property attorneys Tom Kent, Amanda Dempsey and Jarina Duffy. Earlier this year, Saxton & Stump also announced the launch of Palq IP, a strategic IP consulting firm.

“We are excited to offer clients such a truly exceptional team with valuable experience helping clients protect and monetize their IP,” said Saxton & Stump CEO James Saxton. “Andrew Mead brings real world, engineering know-how and business acumen that will add to our proven team and help clients navigate IP matters.”

An experienced engineer and patent attorney

Mead represents businesses and individuals in IP matters, focusing on patent strategy, patent applications and prosecution, patent appeals and post-issuance procedures, primarily in the electro-mechanical fields. His 18 years of experience in patent and IP law includes patent applications related to consumer products, building designs and materials, tools, agricultural equipment, aviation components, and industrial manufacturing equipment and processes. Before earning his J.D. in Intellectual Property at Temple University, James E. Beasley School of Law, he spent 20 years working in the engineering and construction industries and was a licensed professional engineer in Pennsylvania. Specifically, Mead served as a project engineer for a number of firms in electric power industry before entering private practice. His time spent as an engineer allows him to understand the technology behind innovations and determine the best to approach to protect them. Mead earned BSME in Solid Mechanics from University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

An IP team designed to help businesses succeed

By moving his practice to Saxton & Stump, Mead joins a fast-growing team equally focused on helping clients achieve their business goals. Chaired by attorney Andrew Oltmans, Saxton & Stump’s Intellectual Property Law team includes eight attorneys with a wide range of experience in patents, copyright law, trademarks and licensing to help clients define, protect and monetized their IP.
