CHARLESTON, S.C., August 4, 2025 — The growth of Saxton & Stump’s Charleston office continues with the addition of experienced trial attorney and litigator Cody J. Groeber as a shareholder in the firm. Groeber joins the law firm’s Investigations and Criminal Defense and Commercial Litigation groups, bringing nearly 20 years of public defense experience to his new role. Consistent with his experience, Cody will be advising clients facing government investigations, defending them in high-stakes criminal matters, and handling complex litigation in both state and federal courts.
Groeber has spent the past decade as an assistant federal public defender in the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, where he defended individuals in high-stakes federal cases involving allegations such as white-collar fraud, recordkeeping violations, and more.

Earlier in his career, he served as a deputy public defender in Berkeley County and as a senior attorney in the Charleston County Public Defender’s Office. In those roles, he led legal teams and managed heavy caseloads, building a strong foundation in courtroom strategy and client advocacy.

Groeber earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame Law School and his bachelor’s degree, also cum laude, from Furman University.
