PHILADELPHIA, Pa., June 1, 2026 — Saxton & Stump has added Yuan Z. Han, Ph.D. as senior counsel in the firm’s Intellectual Property and Business Litigation and Strategic Solutions groups, further strengthening the firm’s ability to help clients protect and maximize the value of innovation across complex technical industries.
Han joins Saxton & Stump during a period of strategic growth for the firm’s intellectual property practice, following its recent expansion into the Lehigh Valley. His addition enhances the firm’s depth in patent procurement, portfolio strategy and intellectual property counseling, particularly for clients operating in highly technical and research-intensive sectors.
A patent attorney since 2009, Han focuses his practice on drafting, prosecuting and managing sophisticated patent portfolios across industries including chemicals, pharmaceuticals, advanced materials, polymers, semiconductors, medical devices and mechanical technologies. His extensive scientific and legal background enables him to provide clients with practical, business-focused counsel designed to protect innovation, strengthen market position, and create long-term enterprise value.
Before entering the legal profession, Han spent a decade as a research chemist in the Philadelphia region, applying his Ph.D. in organic chemistry to the development of new catalysts and chemical processes.
In addition to private practice, Han served as in-house intellectual property counsel with responsibility for advanced materials, manufacturing technologies, and emissions control businesses, where he advised research and development executives and senior business leaders on patent strategy, competitive risk assessment, portfolio development and commercialization opportunities. From 2011 to 2019, he operated his own boutique intellectual property firm, advising clients on patent procurement, portfolio management, patent enforcement, and intellectual property strategy.
Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Han also provides training in U.S. patent law and strategic intellectual property counseling to law firms and technology companies doing business throughout China, enhancing the firm’s ability to support clients with global intellectual property and business needs.

Han earned his J.D. from the Earle Mack School of Law at Drexel University, his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Princeton University, and his B.S. from Nankai University in China.
