LANCASTER, Pa., September 28, 2026 — Shippensburg University has named the lobby of its newly renovated Kriner Hall in honor of the Saxton family, recognizing the support of alumnus James W. Saxton, chairman of Saxton & Stump, and his wife, Sally, toward the building’s renovation.
Designed to serve as a center for what is next at Shippensburg, the reimagined Kriner Hall reflects many of the principles that have shaped Saxton’s leadership throughout his career: entrepreneurial thinking, collaboration, and a commitment to creating opportunities for others. Those same principles have guided the continued growth of Saxton & Stump and its expanding platform of legal services and seven affiliated companies.
For Saxton, the honor represented a continuation of his long-standing connection to the university. A 1979 graduate, he returned to campus in May 2024 to deliver the address at the university’s undergraduate commencement ceremony, and later that year received the university’s Distinguished Alumni Award. The Saxtons’ support, alongside that of the project’s other donors, is expected to inspire generations of Ship students to become innovative leaders and entrepreneurs.
“Shippensburg University gave me the foundation I needed to build a career and, eventually, a firm of my own,” Saxton said. “Sally and I wanted to give back to a place that means so much to us, and to help create a space where the next generation of Ship students can explore new ideas, work across disciplines and prepare for what comes next. That entrepreneurial spirit has shaped my own journey, and we hope this space creates those same opportunities for future generations of Ship students.
First dedicated in 1958 and named for former University President Harry Kriner, Kriner Hall served for more than six decades as one of the university’s primary dining facilities. Its transformation into an entrepreneurial hub represents a new chapter for the historic campus building.
