Elizabeth M. Ray is a senior counsel attorney in the firm’s Investigation and Criminal Defense group, as well as the Corporate Healthcare and Life Sciences and Business Litigation and Strategic Solutions groups. She works with businesses and corporations in all aspects of criminal and administrative investigations, including anti-trust litigation, commercial litigation, and regulatory enforcement actions. Before joining Saxton & Stump, Liz spent nine years in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the last five of which came as an Assistant U.S. attorney. She was also an FSA forfeiture contractor with the office. In her nine years, she authored appellate briefs, argued before a Third Circuit Court of Appeals panel, handled cases of forfeiture, money laundering and restitution in civil and criminal matters, and collaborated with other prosecutors, law-enforcement partners, and the U.S. Marshals Service regarding forfeiture issues.
While in private practice, Liz counseled pharmaceutical companies on regulatory compliance and risk avoidance, including marketing and promotional materials, internal and corporate communications, and public and media relations issues from litigation. She also defended major pharmaceutical companies in nationwide litigation involving product liability, consumer fraud, and securities fraud allegations. She also served on a trial team defending a major pharmaceutical company during a month-long trial of consumer protection allegations made by the state attorney general. She also had an intellectual property practice, working on software, patent, and trademark licensing.
Liz is a cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, where she was a senior editor and an associate editor with the school’s Journal of Constitutional Law and was also awarded the Order of the Coif recognition. She started her law school education at the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, after graduating magna cum laude from Harvard University. Liz also earned a medical and regulatory writing certificate from the University of the Sciences, Mayes College of Healthcare Business and Policy.
