Michael Henthorne is a South Carolina-based shareholder in Saxton & Stump’s Labor and Employment and Business Litigation and Strategic Solutions groups. Michael is certified as a specialist in employment and labor law by the South Carolina Supreme Court. His practice covers the full range of federal and state employment claims, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, ADEA, OSHA, and 42 U.S.C. § 1981, along with wage and hour disputes, employment contracts, non-competition/non-solicitation, trade secrets, and unfair competition claims.
A seasoned litigator and trial lawyer, Michael represents clients before federal and state courts throughout South Carolina, as well as the EEOC, DOL, NLRB, and state administrative and regulatory agencies. He has successfully handled appeals before the South Carolina Court of Appeals, the South Carolina Supreme Court, and the Fourth Circuit.
Michael’s litigation background extends well beyond employment matters. Admitted pro hac vice in Nevada and Tennessee for employment and whistleblower disputes involving national companies, Michael has served as lead trial counsel in an intellectual property matter for a Fortune 50 retailer, defended a national mortgage lender through a $500,000 predatory lending jury trial, and resolved a seven-figure healthcare negligence claim before trial.
Recognizing litigation is not always the best option, Michael offers clients an efficient alternative as a civil mediator and arbitrator certified by the South Carolina Supreme Court, helping them pursue negotiated resolutions when those better serve their interests. He also brings substantial experience conducting workplace investigations.
Michael previously held the PHR certification through SHRM/HRCI, taught a senior-level employment law class at Anderson University, and is a current adjunct faculty member in the University of South Carolina’s Master of Human Resources program at the Darla Moore School of Business. He is a frequent speaker to attorneys, human resources professionals, and business organizations and routinely provides training for his client’s management and employees.
Michael serves clients across a broad range of sectors, including business, banking, healthcare, manufacturing, hospitality, retail, government, and nonprofit organizations.
