Steven D. Costello, Esq. focuses his practice in professional malpractice litigation, defending physicians, hospitals and long-term care facilities, as well as business litigation and medical device litigation. He has devoted nearly 40 years of his legal career in handling civil litigation and consistently provides his clients with thoughtful, aggressive and effective representation. The majority of his practice involves defending cases associated with catastrophic injury or death. Steve has successfully represented numerous Fortune 500 companies and major hospitals, healthcare systems and insurance companies, having received nearly 150 defense verdicts in jury trials.
Steve lectures frequently to lawyers and healthcare professionals on litigation, risk management and medical malpractice issues. He is an active member of many local and national associations including the Pennsylvania Bar Association where he served on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, Health Law Committee and the Interdisciplinary Committee on Medical and Health Related Issues. He also serves on the Long-Term Care/ALF Committee for the Defense Research Institute. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Academy of Advocacy and Master of the American Inns of Court.
Steve was selected by his peers for inclusion in the the last six editions of The Best Lawyers in America. This year The Best Lawyers in America publication designated him “Lawyer of the Year, 2022 Medical Malpractice Law – Defendants” in the Philadelphia region. He also has been designated a Pennsylvania “Super Lawyer” as published in Philadelphia Magazine and named a “Select Lawyer” in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining Saxton & Stump, Steve served as a Principal at Post & Schell in the Professional Liability Defense Department and as Administrative Principal in their Allentown, PA office
