Steve is an experienced intellectual property attorney who moved his successful solo law practice from Lancaster to Saxton & Stump in 2023. With a strong background in patent and trademark law spanning over 20 years, he has a proven track record of securing numerous patents and trademarks for his clients. Drawing from his experience as the former owner, founder, and sole attorney at the Law Office of Steven O’Donnell, Ph.D., Steve approaches his clients’ legal challenges with the unique perspective of an entrepreneur. He follows his former firm’s mantra of “Create. Consult. Control.” to help businesses recognize and protect the value of their intellectual property for their long-term success. Steve’s expertise extends to obtaining patents for a diverse range of inventions, from T-ball equipment to organic chemical synthesis.

In addition to his successful patent prosecutions, Steve currently has several pending cases before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and manages a substantial portfolio of trademark registrations and applications.

For over two decades, Steve has been involved in developing and maintaining various websites to promote his own firm and handle special projects. This experience in online advertising and marketing has provided him with valuable insights into the challenges faced by online entrepreneurs. Steve leverages this experience to advise his clients on niche topics, including utilizing the Uniform Domain Resolution Policy to protect their online presence from imposters and copycats.

Steve also holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Penn State Medical College in Hershey where he studied the cellular and molecular response to cerebral ischemia (i.e., stroke). This diverse background enhances his ability to handle complex intellectual property cases effectively.

He also has a special interest in the intersection of intellectual property and entertainment, counseling record companies, recording artists, comics, and venues on entertainment-related copyright, trademark, and contract issues.

Prior to establishing his boutique legal practice in 2009, he specialized in complex litigation, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of class actions, antitrust, and intellectual property.

Steve is originally from Minnesota, and sometimes, when he’s tired, his accent slips out.
