Tonya Sulia is senior counsel in Saxton & Stump’s Investigations, White Collar and Criminal Defense Group and the Business Litigation and Strategic Solutions Group, based in the firm’s Pittsburgh office. She advises clients facing government inquiries, leads internal investigations across industries, and helps organizations stay compliant with federal regulations to mitigate risks before they arise.
Tonya draws on extensive experience in both government and private practice. She served in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania from 2012 to 2025, and had been in management positions since 2018. Most recently, she was the office’s deputy criminal chief. In that role, she supervised more than 30 attorneys and oversaw prosecutions involving white collar and violent crime, child exploitation, and significant drug trafficking cases. Tonya also served as acting criminal chief and as chief of the Violent Crimes and Narcotics Section and the Organized Crime and Narcotics Section for the Pittsburgh office. Her government service earned recognition, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Certificate of Appreciation (2019), the Award for Outstanding Performance in Law Enforcement (LEAD) in 2019, and the FBI Certificate of Appreciation (2018).
Earlier in her career, Tonya was an assistant U.S. attorney in the District of Columbia, where she prosecuted dozens of trials and managed hundreds of grand jury investigations. She earned special achievement awards each year from 2003 to 2005.
Between her government roles, Tonya practiced in the Pittsburgh office of Reed Smith, where she conducted internal investigations, defended corporate clients in federal and state criminal matters, and represented witnesses in court and before grand juries.
Tonya graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law and earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business Administration.
