Saxton & Stump’s Matthew W. Rappleye and Ashley B. Nichols Present CLE Seminar for Lancaster Bar Association
Lancaster County, PA, May 11, 2018 – Saxton & Stump’s Matthew W. Rappleye, Esq. and Ashley Brooke Nichols, Esq. were invited speakers at a Continuing Legal Education seminar for the Lancaster Bar Association on May 4, 2018.
During their presentation, Preserving Claims for Appeal, Attorneys Rappleye and Nichols discussed how to preserve claims for appellate review during a civil trial. The discussion centered around avoiding the infamous waiver finding by the trial and appellate courts during post-trial practice. They outlined the main rules of civil and appellate procedure that address waiver, in addition to several cases that addressed waiver throughout pre-trial, trial, and post-trial stages of a civil proceeding. Specifically, they addressed wavier issues that could arise during the pleadings, pre-trial motions, voir dire, arguments, trial testimony, jury charge, verdict, and post-trial practice.
Mr. Rappleye is a shareholder who concentrates his practice on health law, healthcare litigation, insurance coverage issues, and appellate and post-trial advocacy. His practice involves the representation of hospitals, doctors and healthcare professionals and includes counseling, mitigation and litigation. He advises healthcare clients on risk mitigation, quality improvement and medical staff issues. He maintains an active litigation practice defending healthcare providers in professional liability matters at both the trial and appellate court levels. Mr. Rappleye earned his law degree, cum laude, from Boston University School of Law and B.A. from University of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the America, Pennsylvania, and Berks County Bar Associations.
Ms. Nichols is an associate attorney who concentrates her practice on business and commercial litigation in the areas of construction, labor and employment, and appellate and post-trial advocacy. She assists business owners, contractors, and subcontractors on construction claims, including issues with contract drafting and interpretation. She also represents doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals in medical and professional liability cases. She has defended cases at both the trial and appellate court levels. Ms. Nichols earned her law degree from Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University and B.S., magna cum laude, from Susquehanna University. She is a member of the Pennsylvania and Lancaster Bar Associations and sits on the Young Professionals Committee for Associated Builders and Contractors – Keystone Chapter.
