Two registered patent attorneys and two paralegals join Saxton & Stump’s intellectual property practice
LANCASTER, Pa., October 22, 2020 — Registered patent attorneys Andrew L. Oltmans and Meghan A. Van Leeuwen have joined Saxton & Stump in addition to paralegals Jean Leisher and Tracy L. Finkenbinder. The move doubles the size of the firm’s core intellectual property team, making it one of the largest in central Pennsylvania. The group works with entrepreneurs, startups, established companies and multinational companies to develop a strategy to identify, protect and leverage their intellectual property assets.
“We are thrilled to have Andrew, Meghan and Tracy join us to support the growing need for businesses nationally and across Pennsylvania to protect their intellectual property assets,” said CEO James W. Saxton. “With now four registered patent attorneys and two support professionals, Saxton & Stump is well-equipped to help businesses across all industries as they seek to turn their ideas into financial assets to strategically position their companies for the future.”
Oltmans is a registered patent attorney with more than 20 years of experience focusing on patent strategy, the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, patent appeals and post-issuance procedures before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), particularly in the chemicals and materials area. For nearly six years, he served as a Patent Examiner and later as Primary Examiner for the USPTO, where he reviewed chemical patent applications, including applications relating to metallurgy and coatings, including superalloy compositions, high-temperature coatings and conversion coating technologies. Oltmans received his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and his B.S. in chemical engineering from Drexel University.
Van Leeuwen is a registered patent attorney with experience with the preparation, prosecution and licensing of trademarks and patents, with a focus on the biotechnology, chemical, electronic and mechanical arts. Prior to joining Saxton & Stump, she worked for 18 years for a law firm based in Ithaca, NY. Van Leeuwen practiced as a registered patent agent while attending Cornell Law School, graduating cum laude, becoming a patent attorney thereafter. She received her B.S. magna cum laude in molecular genetics from the University of Rochester.
Oltmans is the second shareholder to make a move to Saxton & Stump’s intellectual property team from Harrisburg-based McNees Wallace & Nurick. In 2018, attorney Bruce J. Wolstoncroft joined the firm to lead the practice.
Bruce Wolstoncroft is a registered patent attorney with more than 30 years of corporate and law firm experience with expertise in developing, maintaining and licensing global patent and trademark portfolios. He has served as in-house counsel at two Fortune 500 companies and previously managed the intellectual property department and the global intellectual property portfolio of Armstrong World Industries. Bruce Wolstoncroft earned his J.D. from University of Pittsburgh School of Law and B.S. in civil engineering, engineering and public policy from Carnegie-Mellon University.
Helen Odar Wolstoncroft, who also joined the firm in 2018, is a registered patent attorney with experience in patent and trademark portfolio development and management, intellectual property agreements, licensing and litigation. She started her career in intellectual property as a patent examiner in the USPTO in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining Saxton & Stump, she worked for two large multinational corporations and later practiced at Barley, Snyder, Senft & Cohen in Lancaster as well as several well-known national law firms in their Chicago office, including Kirkland & Ellis, Sidley & Austin and Brinks Hofer Gilson & Lione, where she was a shareholder. Helen Odar Wolstoncroft earned her J.D., summa cum laude, from The American University Washington College of Law and a B.S from University of Notre Dame.
Finkenbinder serves as paralegal/client services professional and previously worked as a legal assistant for 10 years at McNees Wallace & Nurick. She has gained significant experience throughout her more than 30-year career, having worked at firms throughout central Pennsylvania as receptionist, legal assistant, paralegal and office manager.
In July, Leisher joined Saxton & Stump’s intellectual property team as a paralegal/client services professional. She previously served as a legal secretary at McNees Wallace & Nurick for over seven years and at a Philadelphia-based firm for five years with a focus in class-action suits.
