Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance sets commercial motor vehicle inspection dates for 2022
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has announced dates for several commercial motor vehicle inspection campaigns set to take place in 2022. The CSVA inspects approximately 4 million vehicles over the course of a year in North America. Their campaigns are aimed at enforcement, compliance, education and gathering data on industry trends. Here are some of the dates you should know:
May 17 — 19, 2022: International Roadcheck is an annual three-day event when CVSA-certified inspectors conduct compliance, enforcement and educational initiatives targeted at various elements of motor carrier, vehicle and driver safety. This is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in the world. Within a 72-hour period nearly 15 trucks or buses are inspected, on average, every minute across North America.
Operation Safe Driver Week
July 10 — 16, 2022: During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement agencies across North America engage in heightened traffic safety enforcement and education aimed at combating unsafe driving behaviors by both commercial motor vehicle and passenger-vehicle drivers. Activities are held across the United States, Canada and Mexico with the goal of increasing commercial vehicle and non-commercial vehicle traffic enforcement, safety belt enforcement, driver roadside inspections and driver regulatory compliance.
Brake Safety Week
Aug. 21 — 27, 2022: During the brake safety enforcement campaign, CMV inspectors will conduct brake system inspections (primarily Level IV Inspections) on large trucks and buses throughout North America to identify out-of-adjustment brakes and brake-system violations. The week is an annual outreach and enforcement campaign designed to improve commercial vehicle brake safety throughout North America.
Unannounced one-day brake safety enforcement initiative
The 2021 brake safety day happened on May 26, 2021 and could happen at any time during 2022 for this year’s checkup. During this undisclosed one-day effort, CMV inspectors will conduct brake system inspections (primarily Level IV Inspections) on large trucks and buses throughout North America to identify out-of-adjustment brakes and brake-system violations.
