Craig Black, Esq. focuses his practice in healthcare litigation and risk mitigation, representing physicians, hospitals and health systems, post-acute care organizations and other healthcare providers and liability insurers in state and federal courts and before administrative agencies. He has successfully tried complex civil actions to verdict in trial courts throughout Pennsylvania, has prevailed on numerous appeals before the Pennsylvania Superior and Commonwealth Courts and has successfully obtained judgment in his clients’ favor in matters accepted for appeal by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Craig has extensive experience in insurance arbitration proceedings and other alternative dispute resolution formats and has served as a party-appointed arbitrator in professional liability actions.

Prior to entering private practice, Craig served as Chief Counsel to the Medical Professional Liability Catastrophe Loss Fund of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the successor to the Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error Fund.  While serving as Chief Counsel, Craig oversaw the Fund’s litigation relating to the interpretation of statutory coverage provisions of the Act.  He also oversaw the legal aspects of the Fund’s reinsurance program, the actuarial determination of unfunded reserves and developed and oversaw a surcharge audit program.  Craig served as the Fund’s liaison to the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance to ensure conformity of professional liability policy filings with the Act and regulations.
