Richard K. Hammer, MD

Chief Development Officer

Dr. Richard Hammer is a board certified physician with more than 20 years of experience in health care delivery and the business of medicine. He has created and implemented practical solutions for health plans, employer groups, integrated medical systems and private physician groups. As Chief Development Officer for Saxton & Stump, Dr. Hammer works with insurers on innovative patient safety initiatives.

Dr. Hammer was previously the head of a consulting firm that focused on helping clients build, implement and manage programs to maximize the relationships between providers, payers and purchasers. He also served as Vice President of Clinical Market Development for Capital BlueCross. In that role he developed and led a market facing team of physician medical directors focused on accountable care, physician engagement, health plan customers and broker/consultant relations.  He has successfully led reimbursement negotiations for both providers and payors.

Dr. Hammer is a pediatrician with extensive clinical experience in adolescent medicine, sports medicine and pharmacy management.  He previously served on the faculty of the Penn State College of Medicine, where he lectured widely on topics including general pediatrics, health policy, patient safety and neurobehavioral science.  Dr. Hammer is an invited speaker at many national health care conferences, including the Physicians Insurers Association of America Medical Liability Conference, Minimally Invasive Surgery Symposium, GI Roundtable and Guy Carpenter’s Medical Professional Liability Networking Forum.
