Former CMO of Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Joins Saxton & Stump

Lancaster County, PA, October 5, 2016 – Saxton & Stump is pleased to welcome Carol V. Freer, MD, MS, FACP, CPE to the firm’s Lancaster office.  In her role as Senior Medical Consultant, Dr. Freer will provide support for the litigation defense teams and work with the lawyers on medical staff and physician integration issues.  She will concurrently assist the firm’s strategic partner, SE Healthcare Quality Consulting, with the Partners in Safety Program – Hospital Division.

Dr. Freer brings over 35 years of experience in internal medicine and infectious diseases to the firm.  She currently serves as Associate Professor of Medicine with clinical and teaching responsibilities at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.  Most recently, Dr. Freer served as Chief Medical Officer for Penn State Hershey.  She joined Penn State Hershey in 2008 as Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Hospitalist Outreach. In 2009, she became Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs in the Department of Medicine.  Prior to joining Penn State Hershey, Dr. Freer served 12 years as Vice President for Medical Affairs at Hanover Hospital.

Dr. Freer is board certified in internal medicine and infectious diseases and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the Society of Health Care Epidemiologists of America.  She is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America, American Association for Physician Leadership and UHC (Vizient) CMO Branch.

Dr. Freer earned a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Delaware and a M.D. from George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences.  She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and later a fellowship in Infectious Disease and Infection Control from the University of Virginia Medical Center.  Dr. Freer went on to earn a M.S. in Epidemiology/Infection Control from the University of Virginia.
