CHARLESTON, S.C., October 15, 2024 — Saxton & Stump is pleased to announce that South Carolina Lawyers Weekly has named attorney Rene Stuhr Dukes to its annual “Family Law Power List.” Dukes is a shareholder at the firm and the chair of its Family Law Group based in Charleston. Those named to the list are considered accomplished senior leaders in their field who often receive referrals from other attorneys and think creatively for their clients.
“I’m thrilled that South Carolina Lawyers Weekly decided to include me on its Family Law Power List,” Dukes said. “I know first-hand that the state’s family law attorneys are some of the best in the South, so to be included on such a prestigious list like this is a great honor. And congratulations go out to all my colleagues who were also honored on the list.”
In her family law practice, Dukes handles a wide variety of domestic issues, including child custody, parental alienation, third-party custody and visitation, modification actions, alimony, divorce, equitable division, termination of parental rights, and familial adoption. She is also a member of the firm’s Education and Labor and Employment groups and has represented clients with employment issues such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), Title VII, Title IX, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and the South Carolina Payment of Wages Act.
The pro bono work Dukes undertakes includes helping victims of human trafficking. She also spent hundreds of hours working a complex child custody hearing following the June 2015 mass shooting at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.
Dukes holds an AV rating with Martindale Hubbell. She has been voted to the “Legal Elite” ranking with Charleston Business Magazine for 2019 through 2024. She was named a South Carolina Super Lawyers “Rising Star” from 2016 to 2019, and in 2019, Charleston County named her the “Pro Bono Attorney of the Year.”
Dukes earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia, an M.Ed. in clinical counseling from The Citadel, and her law degree from Charleston School of Law.
