Investigations and Criminal Defense

Saxton & Stump’s Investigations and Criminal Defense Group team counsels businesses and individuals in all aspects of criminal and administrative investigations, including complex tax matters, commercial litigation and regulatory enforcement actions. Our team brings a wealth of experience and insight to every engagement whether navigating an in-house investigation, responding to subpoenas and search warrants, preparing for interviews and testimony, handling complicated sentencing matters, negotiating non-prosecution, deferred prosecution, plea agreements or trying cases when necessary.

The group is led by co-chairs Hon. Lawrence Stengel (Ret.), who has almost 30 years of experience as a federal and county judge before entering private practice, and by prominent defense attorney Mark E. Cedrone, Esq., who for 35 years has represented an array of clients, including prominent business leaders facing serious disputes with governmental agencies. Our team also includes former judges, prosecutors and noted litigators such as one of the top defense attorneys on the East Coast, William C. Costopoulos, Esq., former Pennsylvania Deputy Attorney General Carson B. Morris, Esq. and the Hon. Robert A. Graci (Ret.).

Collaborative Approach

When partnering with us, you partner with a team of lawyers who are recognized leaders in their fields. As the regulatory environment becomes more complex, we focus on creating defense strategies that avoid prosecution and provide the best possible outcomes for our clients. The team conducts detailed, objective, and confidential investigations. We also assist clients with the design, audit, and implementation of corporate compliance programs to minimize future legal risks.

Our risk mitigation team of attorneys and professionals bring industry knowledge to counsel clients before action is taken, limiting risk and negative repercussions. In addition to our in-house resources, we have worked with current and former law enforcement investigators, current and former government officials, and nationally recognized experts in their respective fields.
