CHARLESTON, S.C., August 15, 2024 — Saxton & Stump is pleased to announce that three of its attorneys in its Charleston office have been recognized in the 2025 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, one of the legal profession’s oldest and most respected lawyer-ranking publications. For four decades, Best Lawyers lists have been compiled by conducting peer-review surveys in which leading lawyers confidentially evaluate their professional peers, with its core mission of highlighting the top legal talent.
For the second time in her career, Best Lawyers named Alice F. Paylor “Lawyer of the Year” in the Charleston, S.C., region for Bet-the-Company Litigation. She has also been named “Lawyer of the Year” on this list for Employment Law – Individuals. She previously had been Lawyer of the Year in Bet-the-Company Litigation in 2019, and in 2017, she was named Lawyer of the Year for Litigation – Labor and Employment. To be named a Lawyer of the Year, an attorney earns the highest peer review ranking in their geographic area.
In addition to her Lawyer of the Year categories, Paylor also received recognition on the Best Lawyers list for Commercial Litigation, Employment Law – Management, Litigation – Labor and Employment, and Litigation – Trusts and Estates. She has been named to the list 15 consecutive times.
Beyond Best Lawyers recognition, Paylor has also been named to the South Carolina Super Lawyers from 2008 to 2021 and 2023 to 2024. Paylor has an AV Preeminent rating on Martindale-Hubbell and was named to the “Legal Elite of the Low Country” list in Charleston Business Magazine in 2019 and 2022. Paylor was also named a fellow at the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2021, was president of the South Carlina Bar Association from 2013 to 2014 and a member of its Board of Governors from 2005 to 2015. In 2015, the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association named her the honoree of the Jean Galloway Bissell Award, which is presented each year to a female attorney in the state with distinguished and noteworthy service to the public and the legal profession, along with participation in activities that have paved the way to success for women lawyers on the national, state or local level.
Two other Saxton & Stump attorneys were recognized on the 2025 Best Lawyers in America list for the Charleston region:
Elizabeth “Beth” J. Palmer, Esq. made the Best Lawyers list in the Commercial Litigation category for the fifth straight year. Palmer partners with businesses to guide them through litigation, mediation, or arbitration in the hospitality, real estate, non-profit, and industrial distribution industries, among others. She made the South Carolina “Super Lawyers” list from 2021 to 2024 and was Super Lawyers “Rising Star” from 2013 to 2020.
Bijan K. Ghom, Esq. was named to the Best Lawyers “Ones to Watch” for Commercial Litigation for the fifth straight year. In addition, the senior counsel has been named to the Ones to Watch list in the area of Corporate Law for the second straight year. The Ones to Watch list recognizes lawyers who have been practicing for five to nine years and have made a significant impact early in their careers. The list is also developed through peer review. South Carolina Super Lawyers named Ghom a “Rising Star” in Business Litigation from 2022 to 2024.
